Dana Point - 10,000 NM !!!

Hoisting the 10,000 NM pennant…a milestone for sure!

Clicking over 10,000 NM on the Furuno between San Diego and Dana Point

As we make the passage from San Diego north to Dana Point (57NM) the Furuno clicks over the 10,000 nautical mile mark. Many miles and many memories and adventures under the hull of the Independence. Our timing is great, as Dana Point is the headquarters of Nordhavn and we can receive our pennant flag in person AND have the Nordhavn name put on the boat…finally…my boat bling! It is surreal for Larry and I to recall visiting this office, seven years ago, and being shown the drawings of our boat - Coastal Pilot - hull number one. It was being built at that time, to be completed in 2016 and serve as the showboat. She would be moved from coast to coast for promotion and appearances at boat shows for the next two years before we would first step aboard her in Stuart, Florida. Now, four years later we are back in front of the Nordhavn office receiving our 10,000 NM pennant flag and proud to hoist it along with a cold one!

Nordhavn Headquarters at Dana Point

Dan Streech presents Larry and I with the pennant and we had the pleasure of Larry Gieselman and Doug Harlow joining the party

Bret Leishman & Brian Leishman apply the Nordhavn name to our boat, The breastplate will be a arriving on a boat from China next month. I guess the Captain will have to tackle that project in SF.

Independence squeezed into her skinny slip at Dana Point Marina

We celebrate our milestone with a cold one at Turk's Bar. We hear this iconic establishment may not be around in another couple years. The marina has sold and they have plans that sadly don’t include many of the old mainstays.

Larry’s college buddy Dean Porter and his daughter Paige come to visit and have lunch at Proud Mary’s…

…and see Top Gun, Maverick with us…even Tom stopped by to say hi!

You know you’re in Southern Cal when you see a Botox Express truck!

Enjoying a sunset cocktail and a few nibbles before we head off to our next port
