INDEPENDENCE CHRONICLES

Homeward Bound - Santa Barbara to San Francisco, California

Why stop? It’s only 275NM from Santa Barbara to San Francisco, and as the seas were calm with very little wind we just couldn’t risk stopping and wasting this great weather window. So, after 32 hours straight we cruised under the Golden Gate Bridge, shrouded in fog, and found our new home at the Sausalito Yacht Harbor.

It really is amazing to start each day now with the thought that the Independence is home. No more planning, strategizing, weather watching and worrying about the journey. Now it is time for a little break from big travels. Eventually, we will enjoy taking our family, friends and neighbors out on the Bay and we also look forward to some local cruising with our San Francisco Yacht Club. After that, we will have to see…perhaps we will press on further north…only time will tell….

So the journey begins…

The dredded Point Conception was no problem on this calm day

Rounding Point Conception

Our military base at Point Arguello

The crazy fisherman (with no lines out) in the fog without AIS or VHF

Oh yes, she’s out there…can’t see her through the window, but there she is, on the chart…

…there she is, The Golden Gate Bridge, what a site to see - shrouded in a cape of fog

The Independence is home!

We’re here! The boat is washed and it’s time to celebrate!!!

Larry has a beer and relaxes after our 30 plus hour journey. We are in good company next to Nordhavn ‘True Blue’.

A very nice slip to be in here at the Sausalito Yacht Harbor

The sunset over Mount Tamalpais is amazing

Time to visit our San Francisco Yacht Club

Nestled in at the Guest Dock at the San Francisco Yacht Club. Too bad we can only visit…maybe someday we will get a slip!

A great day to celebrate my mom’s 92nd birthday. Lunch with my sisters, Jill and Virginia, followed by a tour of the Independence!
